About:
At every show, the band's personal and musical chemistry is evident from the downbeat to the final chord. In between, Kettlestrings weaves together eclectic and dynamic sets out of its original songs, its own arrangements of classics, hidden gems by artists from Etta James to Radiohead, Nick Lowe to Hall & Oates, Crowded House to Bob Dylan, and a few others you may not have heard of, like Bettie Serveert, the Waifs, and Fairground Attraction. Folks come to the band's shows expecting the unexpected, as Kettlestrings puts its own signature on each tune in the set.

Guild Room
Abraham: MY CHAOTIC ORDER
Abraham’s solo exhibition, MY CHAOTIC ORDER, is a collection of paintings that explore the many facets of the artist’s mind through expressionless characters and symbolism. Consumerism is a constant theme woven into each piece, contributing to the depicted chaos. Diving deep into a multitude of subjects that reflect on the human experience, serious and thought-provoking narratives are conveyed through Abraham’s whimsical characters and a tapestry of playful landscapes.
Sacristy & Slemmons Galleries
Nancy Lu Rosenheim: HARPY · HUMAN · HYBRID · BEAST
Nancy Lu Rosenheim’s menagerie celebrates the vulnerabilities and limitations inherent in the human psyche. Her characters expose the flaws we prefer to conceal – a hairy mole, age-spotted skin, and the cowering posture of embarrassment or shame. Embracing sculpture, printmaking and works on paper, scale navigates between a seven-inch homunculus to a nine-foot worm, inviting the viewer to consider their own stature relative to other living beings.
Chase Gallery
Lynn Basa | Christine Forni | Bobbi Meier: THICK-SKINNED
THICK-SKINNED cuts both ways. It’s the build-up of imperviousness to life’s abrasions over time and lived experience, but it’s also a form of concealment. Without these protections, the human condition would be unbearable. Lynn Basa, Christine Forni, and Bobbi Meier each have their way of approaching material as a metaphor for this survival membrane between the external world and themselves.
Sanctuary Hall Gallery
Khleo Morris: INSTRUMENTAL
Khleo Morris creates portraits that explore the nature of duality and the strengths pulled from opposing aspects of her subjects. Her work is inspired by film processing and photographic negatives that have subtle attributes not quite captured in the developed imagery, as if exposing the spirit of the image. Putting both phases of development at play captures the intricate nature of human existence, where light and darkness coexist.
Catacombs Gallery
Jordan Porter-Woodruff: PORTRAITS: WORKING HANDS
In her photography series, Jordan Porter-Woodruff highlights the hands of basketball players, sculptors, chefs, and others, to celebrate the fundamental tools that bring creativity to life. Not only does this series focus on the creativity that hands produce, but it also alludes to the beauty of intimacy and the power of touch. Collectively, the photographs are a reminder of the power of our hands and their ability to create proud moments, while also recalling the darkness that they can produce.

About:
Embarking on a rhythmic journey that intertwines her West Indian roots with the vibrant heartbeat of Brooklyn, NY, emerges an artist who resonates far beyond soundwaves. Faith Quashie, a contemporary vocalist and a beacon of musical innovation.
Recipient of not just one, but two coveted DownBeat Magazine Awards, Faith stands as a testament to the transformative power of melody and lyric. Drawing inspiration from luminaries such as Cassandra Wilson's raw storytelling, Jill Scott's unapologetic authenticity, and the ethereal charm of Lianne La Havas, Faith's voice navigates the spectrum of human emotion with an unmatched finesse.
Guided by mentors who have left their indelible mark on the sonic tapestry of jazz - from the harmonious elegance of New York Voices to the boundary-defying creativity of säje, and the soulful musings of Carla Cook - Faith's artistic tapestry is woven from threads of wisdom and ingenuity.
A seasoned traveler across stages, Faith's presence is a magnetic force. Whether leading the ensemble as a bandleader or weaving sonic narratives as a sideman, her versatility and command over her craft are mesmerizing. Beyond the stage, Faith stands as a cornerstone within her community, a driving force in the movement to elevate women in music. Collaborating with luminaries like Cyrille Aimee, Candice Hoyes, and Sasha Berliner through the Women in Jazz Organization, Faith is not just a vocalist, but a catalyst for change.
A recent participant in The Woodshed Network Residency program alongside the legendary Dee Dee Bridgewater and an assembly of industry titans including Sheila E., Faith's trajectory is set to soar even higher. This program served as a launchpad, propelling her career into new dimensions through the alchemy of networking and transformative workshops.
Faith's musical philosophy transcends mere performance, delving into the realms of spiritual liberation. Her compositions are a conduit for catharsis, resonating across generations, intertwining the past, present, and future. As you embark on an auditory odyssey with Faith Quashie, you're not just listening to music - you're partaking in an experience that transcends time, a symphony of the soul that speaks to the very essence of our human journey.

About Umraan Syed:

His music, rich in metaphoric and lyrical depth, draws from personal experiences and a keen observation of the world around him. Umraan's debut album, "Bismillah," showcased his innovative sound, blending genres and setting the stage for his critically acclaimed follow-up, "House in the Vines."
As he gears up for the release of his highly anticipated album, "Z E N I T H," fans can expect an even more adventurous sonic journey. Known for his dynamic live performances, Umraan brings a powerful band to the stage, seamlessly fusing elements of jazz, rock, R&B, and hip-hop to create an unforgettable live show experience. Don't miss the chance to witness this groundbreaking artist in action – Umraan Syed is truly a force to be reckoned with.
About C3zr:
"Chicago pianist, songwriter, and producer Cesar Pino writes music with a location in mind, be it a beach, a rooftop while looking up at the sky at night, or even somewhere in the mainframe of Tron, thanks to a consistent use of electronic drums and synth bass. Donning the moniker C3zr, Pino’s project combines his background as a classically trained and jazz pianist with the electronic funk or soul of his favorite artists like Kaytranada, Daft Punk, Robert or Glasper.
Anyone could find themselves in the world Pino creates in his electronically produced but soulful debut album, Round Voyage(600 Block Records). But the songwriting and setting is still distinctly inspired by Chicago, set along the city’s lakefront by day and the city’s river at night."

Sophia Cruz is a Funk, Neosoul singer and musician taking influence from artists such as Stevie Wonder, Allen Stone, Hiatus Kaiyote and Amy Winehouse and more. Her origins trace back to growing up in a household with parents as musicians. Her inspiration for becoming a multi-instrumentalist is nothing but a reflection of the environment she was raised in. Learning and listening to anything from Funk and Jazz, to Opera and Folk. She attended Columbia College Chicago for undergrad and received a bachelor's in vocal performance and a minor in music business. She has continually been writing, recording, and performing her original music. With soulful wisdom in her sound of rich, warm vocals in funky, pocketed grooves, she continues to offer a fresh perspective on music new and old inspired by the foundation of classic Funk, Soul and RnB.

About:
CHAI Collaborative Ensemble (CCE) concludes their 2023-24 Season with works that offer brief windows into diverse musical perspectives of four distinctive composers of classical music from the 20th and 21st centuries. Jenni Brandon's Sea Quartet is a colorful tribute to the beauty of the ocean and all the creatures and ecosystems that dwell within it. It was commissioned by the L.A. Musical Salon as part of my composer residency with the Vientos Trio from 2008-2009, and was inspired by her living near the Pacific Ocean. Heitor Villa-Lobos' Trio for Oboe, Clarinet, and Bassoon offers a fusion between various forms of traditional Brazilian rhythms and music and the classical wind trio. Villa-Lobos gravitated towards the raw sounds of wind instruments, and indulged in a variety harmonic clashes, rhythmic dexterity, and dynamic extremes in this work. Gernot Wolfgang's Windows is a pensive yet flowing piece for clarinet, bassoon and piano. In the composer's words, "the main theme of this 12 minute composition in one movement is presented in a variety of musical environments throughout the piece. In an allegorical sense, it is as if the listener was walking down a hallway lined with windows, periodically catching a view of the exterior. The outside world always stays the same, but the perspective of the viewer/listener changes from window to window... a chain of parallax views." Valerie Coleman's Trio Toccata was written in the summer of 2014, and equally showcases the virtuosity of the oboe, bassoon, and piano. In Coleman's words, it is "a lyrical, high paced romp that is heavily jazz influenced."
Featuring:
Andrew Marlin, bassoon
Marianne Parker, piano
Laura Perkett, oboe
Daniel Williams, clarinet
Tickets are Pay-What-You-Can, and are $10-50.
CCE's 2023-24 Season is sponsored in part by the Illinois Arts Council Agency, the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, and the Illinois Creative Recovery Grant Program (B2B Arts). The ensemble also gratefully acknowledges the support from their wonderful community of generous individual donors over the years.

Now in its third year, the theme "The Garden of Time" reflects the evolution of human history and the ongoing cycle of creation and destruction. It pays tribute to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion, symbolizing garment materials within three zones: land, sea, and sky.
The gala is a platform for both emerging and established local designers while raising funds for fashion education programs. As a top-tier event, it attracts influencers, industry professionals, and fashion enthusiasts, uniting Chicago's creative community for a night of style, art, and philanthropy.
VIP PERKS:
For Chicago Does the Met, In The Realm Of Senses will provide an immersive musical journey from Bach to the Beatles, with visual projections and unique scents paired with the performances. They will also create custom-scented candles for the event which will go inside of a “Goodie Bag.”

About Cult like:
Cult like is brand new to the music scene, however, each of the band members is not. Each playing in different projects over the years, the guys eventually came together just before the release of the EP, “Pretty Shore”. The band blends together poppy and alternative elements, but also makes whatever they feel like given everyone in the band has a different musical background. The band consists of Brice Lanham (Drums), Mission Marcis (Bass), and Victor Roa (Guitar/Vocals).

About:
Be delighted and inspired by this contemporary chamber music concert featuring music by living composers curated and performed by the Fellows of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, members of International Contemporary Ensemble and special guest Douglas Ewart. The program will be announced this spring.
The Civic Orchestra of Chicago prepares young professional musicians for lives in music. Civic members participate in rigorous orchestral training and perform free concerts in Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center and in communities across Greater Chicago. Through an array of experiences designed to build and diversify creative and professional skills, the Civic Fellowship program empowers participants to realize their full potential as artistically excellent, civically engaged, collaborative and entrepreneurial musicians.
Now in its third decade, the International Contemporary Ensemble is a multidisciplinary collective of musicians, digital media artists, producers, and educators committed to building and innovating collaborative environments in order to inspire audiences to reimagine how they experience contemporary music and sound. Under the leadership of composer and Artistic Director George Lewis, the Ensemble creates a mosaic musical ecosystem as “America’s foremost new-music group” (The New Yorker), honoring the diversity of human experience and expression by commissioning, developing, recording, and performing the works of living artists in “a mission worth following” (I Care If You Listen).
Perhaps best known as a composer, improviser, sculptor and maker of masks and instruments, Douglas R. Ewart is also an educator, lecturer, arts organization consultant and all-around visionary. In projects done in diverse media throughout an award-winning and widely acclaimed 40-year career, Ewart has woven his remarkably broad gifts into a single sensibility that encourages and celebrates — as an antidote to the divisions and compartmentalization afflicting modern life — the wholeness of individuals in culturally active communities.

For the Golden Hour, Feestet will perform as a trio featuring Chicago’s own Frank McKearn IV on the Electronic Valve Instrument. A 1970’s analog synthesizer with 7 octaves range, the EVI perfectly showcases both Frank’s trumpet chops and bass experience. They are joined by the project’s primary composer/arranger, Anthony Utehs, on guitar.

About:
Converging innovative musical writing with a passion for improvisation, Retrospect is a new emerging band on the Chicago jazz scene. Rooted in the voice of American music, the band's journey began as a senior recital band at Columbia College Chicago. This group boasts five instrumentalists, with composer and saxophonist Ben Jossi, Jackson Arbogast on guitar, Miles Pretel on keys and piano, Ethan Davila on bass, and Hugh Maxey on drums, the lineup was set.
Their music is a captivating blend of past and present, where jazz's improvisational spirit dances with Latin rhythms, hip hop beats, soulful blues, and a sprinkle of American roots. This unique fusion began during Ben's senior recital aptly titled "Retrospect." Soon, they headlined at Manifest, Columbia's spring arts festival, under the name "Ben Jossi's Retro Collective."
But it was their recording at Sessions@33, a Columbia production akin to a tiny desk concert, that solidified their identity as Retrospect. With some new members that brought a powerful sound, the name stuck. For Retrospect, their music identifies with jazz's limitless possibilities and adds to the allure of genre-blending. It goes beyond music; it's storytelling through the musical language this group performs with.

About:
If you were around during Chicago’s underground House Music movement or Rave scene in the late 80’s and early 90’s, then you’ll be utterly familiar with the name Julio Bishop. Whether from appearing weekly on some of the hottest party flyers throughout the Midwest or because you had a copy of his now infamous mix tape, “Love Nation” sold out of all the local record stores, the name Julio Bishop is synonymous with jacking dance floors since 1987.
Getting his start as a dancer and DJ in Chicago’s nightclubs and warehouses, but soon expanding his influence; from NYC to LA, to the beaches of Miami, Puerto Rico and Mexico, Germany and Sicily, Julio has been bringing his deep, mystifying grooves to the world for over 3 decades. His intimate knowledge of classic Afro-Latin and Jazz, , as well as his acquired proficiency of Disco, Electronica, Club & Deep House takes his sets far outside the realm of what is attainable by a greener selection of DJ’s.
Funneling his talents into the studio in the early 2000’s, Julio helped launch RealDEEP Recordings, along side label partner Brian Cullen (aka Bjak) where, together they paved the way to further coproductions and solo projects on labels such as Deep Explorer Music (Madrid) and Eargasmic Recordings (Chicago).
With more releases on the way and a selection of upcoming gigs scheduled between Chicago. Puerto Rico, LA & Hawaii, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for what’s to come next from this proved House Music veteran.

About:
For the first time in Chicago, Maureen Muldoon and Haley Lawrence will present “Listen to your Mother,” the national storytelling phenomenon that gives motherhood a microphone. The goal of every LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER production is to take the audience on a well-crafted 90-minute journey of diverse true stories about motherhood—being a mom, having a mom, losing a mom, finding a mom—as many interpretations on the theme of mothering as you can imagine. From hilarious and heartwarming, to emotionally intense and profound, LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER entertains, energizes, brings community together and leaves everyone feeling a little less alone and a little more understood.
It’s an evening of laughter and tears. Of stories that inspire. And the best part? This event supports a local nonprofit supporting women and families in need.

About:
My Fair Audrey Hepburn
When you think of Audrey Hepburn, you think of timeless beauty. But Audrey was so much more than a pretty face and a killer clavicle. From WWII refugee to Academy Award winner, from UNICEF beneficiary to UNICEF ambassador, Audrey led a remarkable and exemplary life. Actress, fashion icon, wife, mother, and tireless humanitarian, Audrey is as much beloved today as she was half a century ago. Celebrate Audrey’s 95th birthday in style! Join acclaimed Chicago cabaret artist, Hilary Ann Feldman (“… a tour de force of cabaret, opera, and jazz.” ~Chicago Tribune), along with pianist Beckie Menzie, for her touching, funny, and enlightening tribute to this extraordinary woman.
Hilary Ann Feldman
Called a "tour de force of cabaret, opera, and jazz" by the Chicago Tribune, Hilary Ann Feldman has appeared across the country and in London, England, celebrating music of the Great American Songbook past and present, while paying tribute to some of entertainment's most beloved icons.
Hilary has a reputation for clever storytelling through song, unique subject matter, and an exquisite, versatile singing voice. She is known not only for her unique take on traditional cabaret fare, but also for pushing the boundaries of what that fare can be.
The remarkable success of her tribute to the beloved Audrey Hepburn proved that music could be used to pay tribute to a non-musical icon.
"... a classy musical tribute to Audrey Hepburn. While offering a cabaret show based on a performer known more as an actress than singer might be tricky, Feldman makes it all fly... a lovely vocalist... the right balance of musicality, story, and heart."
~ Cabaret Scenes Magazine
Hilary followed up that triumph with her a tribute to funny woman Carol Burnett, which has been playing to sold out houses since it opened in May 2015 and prompted a couple of phone calls from Carol Burnett herself!
"I absolutely loved the show! I've told a few people this in my life, and now I'm telling you: You are the whole package!"
~ Carol Burnett, TV Legend & Broadway Star
Expertly weaving together her wealth of knowledge on her chosen subject with just the right music to tell the story, Hilary creates clever and compelling performances that surprise and delight audiences.
Hilary’s debut CD, Taking Flight, was named "Cabaret/Folk CD of the Year" by NY Cabaret Hotline. She is also a well-respected vocal and performance coach and the founder of Acts Of Kindness Cabaret, an organization that has raised nearly half a million dollars for local charities through cabaret performance. www.HilaryAnnFeldman.com www.AOKCabaret.org

About:
A night of transportive neoclassical soundscapes by two visionary composers.
Gregory Allison creates with a single violin a sound that travels across great landscapes. He has toured the world with violin in hand and is endlessly inspired by the instrument’s journey around the globe, especially it’s use in South Indian Classical music. His live performance blends the Indian Classical melodic improvisation with his classical sensibility as a film composer, offering the listener a sonic journey through time and space.
He will be performing his 2021 debut album Portal in its entirety, along with new compositions for amplified violin and string quartet.
Gregory recently moved back to Portland after 5 years living in LA, where he started the record label and recording studio Holy Volcano. He has released four albums on the label: one solo, two with collaborator Tristan de Liege, and as producer for the debut album from songwriter Ella Luna. He is currently collaborating with electronic composers to create ReWorked versions of the music from his debut solo record Portal.
Slow Meadow is Houston multi-instrumentalist Matt Kidd. Kidd's releases as Slow Meadow have been celebrated by the New York Observer, NPR's Stephen Thompson, Echoes' John Diliberto, and who sampled Lachrymosia for the platinum-selling song on his debut album, FREE 6LACK. In 2022, Kidd provided the original soundtrack to the film, "My Mind & Me".
Two years following 2017’s Costero, Slow Meadow returned with its third full-length album Happy Occident, a collection of textured ambient melodies. Fueled by the anxiety derivative of modern life and the frenetic and often uncertain state of these ever-changing times, Happy Occident provides music for reflection. A soundtrack to life’s contemplative moments, and an experience akin to mindfulness meditation.
In 2021, Slow Meadow is back with Upstream Dream, its first wholly new music since 2020’s By the Ash Tree, which bookends a period of creative output that introduced Kidd’s vision of calming and meditative ambient music.
With a foundation of piano, string orchestration, and an ever-evolving electronic palette, Slow Meadow has traversed the borders of neoclassical and minimalist electronics with Upstream Dream, delivering a deeply personal and transportive experience that speaks directly to the ebbs and flows and mundanity and marvels of life. With sublime patience, understated
elegance, and surreal atmosphere, Slow Meadow savors the present, remembers the past, and imagines what could be.

In his Performance Luciano contrasts songs that have rich and complex harmonies and melodies with simple rhythms against songs that have simple harmonies and melodies with very complex rhythms, and the dynamics range from pure solo guitar and voice to the full sound of the rich Brazilian percussion in a fascinating musical way. Luciano released three albums, two of which are original music "Vida De Artista - An Artist's Life" in 2011 and “Sem Palavras – Without Words” in 2015. His 3rd Album is a 'Live Concert" at the prestigious Jazz Showcase. Make no mistake; Luciano has placed his stamp on the Brazilian music scene in Chicago.

About Wuraola Adeniji:
Wuraola Adeniji, a Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist, immerses herself in the realms of fashion, filmmaking, and photography. Through her unique lens, she orchestrates a symphony of imagination, breathing life into fantastical landscapes and narratives.
Having spent her formative years in Nigeria, She finds solace and inspiration in her roots, infusing her art with a profound sense of authenticity and nostalgia. Fashion becomes her canvas, a medium through which she transcends the boundaries of reality, weaving a delicate dance between the abstractions of memory and the present-day experiences of life in the United States.
Drawing from her Yoruba ancestry, she imbues her art with the significance of cultural expression, seamlessly blending tradition with innovation to craft a visual language that speaks to the soul.
About Phoebe Heng:
For Phoebe, art-making is a form of therapy to understand subconscious tensions that can not be articulated through words.
Finally seeing her imagination come to life provides a time of reflection; the ghosts of children, a childhood blanket flying back to her, the transformation of becoming a golden field of wheat, and the ability to fly away with birds beneath our feet. Everyday objects and unconventional materials are primarily used in her work to deconstruct and piece together by machine sewing or hand stitching to reflect fading memories and the belief that everything is just a brevity of existence.
Making sculptural garments is a response of playfulness to connect to childhood creativity and imagination. Phoebe’s practice allows her to access unconscious desires of memory by physically bringing forth the imaginative realm through her work. The invisible world striving to manifest. The dreaming. Thus, constantly living in her reality. The surreal.
About Kaine:
Investigation lies at the heart of my creativity, with craftmanship as my guiding hand. I specialize in transforming intangible themes of memory into tangible art through fabric and garments. Employing an interdisciplinary approach, I explore folklore and science through traditional research, conceptual mind-mapping, non-traditional silhouettes, and handcrafted textiles.
The hours invested in creating textiles allow me to capture beautiful moments in fabric: the etherealness of space rendered in dyed organza, the gleam of metal embodied in leather, a secret language encoded within a print, or an otherworldy texture manifested in knit.
With these tools and techniques, I strive to achieve a delicate yet resilient balance in my work, marrying the ephemeral with the enduring.
About Maxine:
As an artist embracing my full identity, I've ceased trying to fit into traditional molds. My art celebrates black beauty as it existsin everyday life and across the globe, challenging the conventional portrayal of the African American community which often emphasizes grief, poverty, and violence.
I aim to redefine this narrative, asserting that we are pioneers of culture. My work testifies that African Americans are not just participants but leaders in shaping cultural norms. We innovate, inspire, and set trends.
Drawing from African history, my art bridges our rich past and an envisioned future of limitless possibilities. My designs incorporate the craftsmanship of quilting, puffer techniques, screen printing, and textile design with a vivid palette of AfriCOBRA like colors.
These techniques embody a harmonious fusion of tradition and innovation and each creation is an expression of my vision as a designer and a reflection of my identity. It's a narrative of empowerment, a declaration of our role as creators of our world, celebrating the diversity and richness of our heritage.
About Aliyah Isaacs:
A young Black fashion designer and photographer from Louisiana, draws her creative energy from her personal journey, the vibrant tapestry of Black everyday life, and the captivating realms of Afrofuturism. With a profound desire to interlace narratives within her clothing, Aliyah seamlessly melds her passion for photography to construct immersive experiences. Her designs serve as vessels for storytelling, seamlessly blending elements of cultural resistance with couture craftsmanship and unconventional materials.
As a visionary, Aliyah perceives her garments not merely as attire, but as gateways to alternate worlds where Black individuals are welcomed into the realm of her fantasy. Through her work, she extends an invitation to viewers to embark on a journey through the lens of her imagination. Her mission reverberates with the essence of empowerment, augmenting their presence with every meticulously crafted stitch and silhouette.
